“A good cup of coffee, like a good design, is not just about the ingredients; it’s about the art of preparation.”
- Maria S. (graphic design student and coffee enjoyer)
The Brief
Design a drip coffee maker that addresses a problem in existing products on the market

The Problem
Many coffee makers are designed in the pursuit of functionalism and lack the  "personality" or interaction many users are looking for

The Opportunity
How may we create a functional coffee maker that is simple, playful, and designed to celebrate the human routine?

Lila
Wants to get her coffee quickly and easily in the morning

Jake
Enjoys the routine of making the coffee and wants to feel excited in the morning
CMF
soft plastics, low-polish metal, bright highlights
Inspiration
futuristic, unique, playful, inviting, strong curvature
Abstracted form development with quick ideation and refinement led to the sculptural concept of a folded metal structure holding two spheres suspended above one another.
The idea is further explored in both sketching and CAD to create a realistic structure and enhance the hierarchy of the form by changing the proportions of the water container.

Exploration of function:

1.    Remove and refill the water container
2.   Remove and refill the ground container

The Final Product
One button, one function
Simple, playful, and  a fun part of the daily routine
